Women's Services
The PAAM Program, begun in 1975, was among the first in the nation to offer comprehensive outpatient services to heroin-addicted women and their families. The medical services provided include: internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics and psychiatry. These services are integrated with addiction treatment, which is provided via individual counseling, methadone maintenance, and group treatment. Parenting, foster care, and vocational preparation groups are also provided. All services are provided in one location. Information about individual and family circumstances, including substance abuse, are kept confidential. Medicaid is accepted and a sliding scale is available for self-pay patients. For further information or to make an appointment, please call (212) 360-7792.
Outpatient Drug-Free Treatment
Drug-free addiction treatment is provided for persons who abuse alcohol, cocaine or other drugs. This treatment is provided under medical supervision in our Family and Employment Services Program (FESP). The program utilizes group treatment, individual counseling, parenting education, primary medical care, and psychiatry services. While there is no minimum or maximum length of treatment in the program, the course of successful treatment usually ranges between eight and twenty-four months. Medicaid and some private insurances are accepted, and a sliding scale is available for self-pay participants. For further information or an appointment, please call (212) 360-7400.
Detoxification
Outpatient detoxification from heroin and other opioids is available through MAP, a methadone-to-abstinence program. The clinical approach is to stabilize the opioid addiction with methadone, address related problems through counseling and medical care, and provide medically supervised withdrawal as appropriate. Because each persons circumstances are different, the length of treatment varies. Some people are able to stabilize, complete withdrawal, and engage in any needed aftercare within two months. However, most people who successfully detoxify require six to twelve months to finish the program. For participants who decide not to withdraw from methadone, referrals for longer-term methadone treatment are arranged. Medicaid is accepted, and a sliding scale is available for self-pay patients. For further information or an appointment, please call (212) 360-7791.
