Outpatient detoxification from heroin and other opioids is available through MAP, a methadone-to-abstinence program. The clinical approach is to stabilize the opioid addiction with methadone, address related problems through counseling and medical care, and provide medically supervised withdrawal as appropriate. Because each person's circumstances are different, the length of treatment varies.
