“It would be an honor if the people who come to my Bar Mitzvah would consider supporting ECDC with a donation instead of giving me a present.”
-Jamie Cooney
Thank you, Jamie!
We’re honored that Jamie has asked his friends and family to donate to the Center for Comprehensive Health Practice’s Early Child Development Center & playroom in lieu of Bar Mitzvah presents.
Here is a bit of background on CCHP and the Early Childhood Development program you’ll be supporting:
The Center for Comprehensive Health Practice (CCHP), located in East Harlem, provides high-quality, affordable primary health care, behavioral and mental healthcare, substance use support, parenting education at the Early Childhood Development Center, and supportive services for adults, adolescents, and children. Our mission is to provide patients and their families with comprehensive, family-focused healthcare and support services in one location. We strive to create lasting partnerships between patients, families, and professionals.
The Early Childhood Development Center teaches parents the principles of child development and provides much-needed support to parents of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Our unique playroom has always been a significant part of our mission because it provides families with the ability to receive care and services while knowing that their children are safe and happy. Our classes have helped generations of parents learn the principles of child development and raise happy healthy children.
“We went every Tuesday to ECDC after my Mom finished work until I was about 8 years old,” Jamie explains. “The playroom provides a safe and fun environment for the children of people who need to be at the clinic It would be an honor if the people who come to my Bar Mitzvah would consider supporting ECDC with a donation instead of giving me a present.”
The playroom is available at no cost to all visiting patients caring for young children, and it remains an essential part of CCHP’s visionary approach to full family comprehensive health care and early childhood development.
Jamie explains why he’s asking family and friends to support it.
“For my mitzvah project, I was very interested in helping a community that I have always been a part of and cared about,” he says. “I personally have really happy memories of the time that I spent in the playroom.”
As part of his Bar Mitzvah, Jamie is not only asking family and friends to make financial donations to CCHP, he has also been donating his time through a service project in the CCHP playroom.
“My sister and I assembled backpacks with school supplies for the children who visit the playroom,” he explains. “I know my mom learned a lot about parenting from Becky and Harriett and the other parents there, and I am happy that the playroom has a new really nice home and I look forward to visiting often. I really look forward to continuing to volunteer.”
Thank you for supporting Jamie’s commitment to providing comprehensive health services to those in need.
