Statement on the death of George Floyd

In light of recent events, it is with great pain, frustration, and sadness that we send this memo to our employees.

The murderings of Black Americans by police officers and the disproportionate number of deaths from COVID-19 endured by communities of color, has further exposed the racial injustices that our society holds. Over the past week, we have seen the response of a community that has been traumatized by systemic and institutional racism.

We condemn the actions of the police officer in Minneapolis who murdered George Floyd in cold blood, and grieve for him along with the hundreds who went before him and those whose names we don’t know.

While many in the Black community fear that their name will be the next that needs to be remembered, we acknowledge that many others have the privilege of only imagining the deep and distinct pain that is endured. We do a deep disservice by turning a blind eye and ignoring this reality.

CCHP’s mission has always been to provide a safe space for our patients and our community; safe from racism and discrimnation. We want to make sure that you know that this extends to you as well, especially to our colleagues in Black and Brown communities. We care about your safety and wellbeing.

This is a time for solidarity and action. As Maya Angelou once said, “Equal rights, fair play, justice, all are like air; we all have it or none of us has it.” To everyone hurting right now, know that you are not alone. We are here to support you and lift you up.
